Events in Upper Austria

Upper Austria swings between urban Linz, the alpine Salzkammergut and the industrial axis of Wels, Steyr and Enns — with an event spectrum to match.

With Ars Electronica, Linz hosts one of the world's most important digital-art festivals, anchored culturally by the Lentos museum. The club scene around Posthof, Stadtwerkstatt and KAPU plays several nights a week. In the Salzkammergut, lake festivals on the Traunsee, Attersee and Lake Hallstatt dominate, alongside the Narcissus Festival in Bad Aussee and the Salzburg Festival spillover in Bad Ischl. Steyr and Wels regularly host trade fairs and concerts in smaller halls. And Linz is the central hub for the student scene of the JKU and the University of Arts, with the nightlife to go with it.

Insider tip: Ars Electronica (usually early September) takes over the whole city for a week — if you want to stay overnight in Linz, book three or more months ahead.
