Events in Burgenland

Between Lake Neusiedl, rolling vineyards and the Pannonian plain, Burgenland has an event scene that goes far beyond tourism clichés.

The season starts earlier here than in the rest of Austria. From April onwards, the neighbourhoods around Rust, Mörbisch and Podersdorf switch into event mode — from lakeside opera festivals and wine tastings along the Lake Neusiedl cycling route to church fairs in practically every village. In summer there is hardly a weekend without a wine-tavern festival or open-air concert; in winter, Christmas markets in Eisenstadt and the Esterhazy Palace concert season take over. Burgenland is also Austria's festival backyard: Lovely Days, Nova Rock and the Pannonia Fields deliver three weeks of music tourism around Nickelsdorf every year.

Insider tip: If you are after authentic local tradition, look out for St Martin's celebrations and harvest church fairs in Oberpullendorf and Oberwart in autumn — that is where things happen away from the main tourist routes.
