Events in Styria

Styria bundles three very different event regions into one state: Graz, the Ausseerland-Salzkammergut and the Styrian wine road.

Graz, European Capital of Culture in 2003, has cultivated that legacy to this day — the Kunsthaus, Schauspielhaus and the opera carry the core scene, while the Murinsel summer and the Styriarte fill the warm months with festival programming. Postgarage, PPC and Orpheum Extra are the established indie and club venues. In the Ausseerland, the Narcissus Festival, church fairs and pilgrimages overlap with alpine tourism. The Styrian wine road around Gamlitz and Leutschach lives off wine-tavern festivals, tastings and harvest celebrations. On top of that: Aflenz Splashline, the Nova Rock neighbourhood, and the Graz student scene with the University of Graz, Med Uni and the University of Arts.

Insider tip: Styriarte tickets (late June to mid-July, early music) typically sell out in March/April — spontaneous visitors often have better luck with the side-row seats at the palace concerts.
