Events in Tyrol

Tyrol is the state with the clearest event seasonality — winter ski events and summer mountain events shape the calendar.

Innsbruck forms the urban centre, with Treibhaus, the Weekender club, Bäckerei and the P.M.K. cultural centre as the scene's venues. The ski openings in Ischgl, Sölden, St. Anton and Obergurgl draw an international après-ski crowd in November and December. In summer, the centre of gravity shifts to the Zillertal (the Zellberg Buam alpine party, the Gauderfest in Zell am Ziller), the Ötztal (trail running, mountain-bike events) and the Pitztal. The Tyrolean Festival Erl (near Kufstein) brings ambitious opera in summer. The carnival mask processions — such as the Telfs Schleicherlauf — are internationally recognised as UNESCO intangible cultural heritage.

Insider tip: For genuine Tyrolean tradition, look at the carnival runs of Telfs, Imst and Rottenburg — they only take place every three to five years and draw tens of thousands.
