Judas, ein Mensch - Das Musical
What's it about?
"JUDAS, ein Mensch" – A musical that touches the soul. In September 2025, the music theater project "JUDAS, ein Mensch" premiered at the Eisenstadt Cultural Center – a moving work that tells the Passion story from the perspective of Judas Iscariot. Instead of condemning him as a traitor, the piece shows his human side: doubt, longing, and inner conflict. A narrator – the "Provocateur" – guides through 20 impressive scenes that connect biblical content with current questions. The music by Thomas J. Steiner, who also directs, ranges from intimate duets to powerful choral scenes and is performed live by a chamber orchestra, rock band, and choir. The ensemble consists of around 35 performers from Eastern Austria. Notably, Josiah Ault and Roman Wagner as Judas impress with emotional depth and experience in musical theater. Other roles are played by, among others, Lisi Lorincz, Johanna Weinhoffer, Tristan Schneider, Susanne Dunst, and Michael Wachelhofer. The project is supported by the non-profit association Musical-Werkstatt Sonnenland, dedicated to youth development. With idealism, passion, and volunteer commitment, this musical is created to move, challenge – and resonate long after.
