What's it about?

In an intimate trio setting, the three exceptional artists manage to ignite a musical-emotional fire with their combined joy and energy - between happiness and melancholy, silliness and heartbreak. Line-up: Shira Karmon — vocals Clara Montocchio — vocals Elias Meiri — piano, vocals, cajón Elias & The Yiddish Maidels Pianist Elias Meiri combines with soprano Shira Karmon and jazz singer Clara Montocchio a variety of musical worlds: a bit of klezmer, a bit of jazz. The harmonious blend of these two unique voices meets traditional songs as well as original compositions, alongside Elias Meiri's virtuosic piano art, which transforms his European and Mediterranean origins into a rhythmic celebration. In an intimate trio setting, the three exceptional artists manage to ignite a musical-emotional fire with their combined joy and energy - between happiness and melancholy, silliness and heartbreak. Their debut album "Bei Mir Bistu Sheyn" was released in March 2025 by Gramola Records and was nominated for the Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik. Elias Meiri Elias Meiri is a native Israeli who has played piano since the age of five. Supported by his absolute pitch, he mastered improvisation at an early age. He attended the Talma Yalin music high school in Tel Aviv and completed his studies at Berklee College of Music in Boston. After several years playing with jazz greats like Dizzy Gillespie, Dave Liebman, and Steve Grossman in New York, he settled in Europe in 1988. Besides numerous performances with Timna Brauer and various ensembles, he also played solo concerts. He teaches piano, singing, ear training, and jazz improvisation, and is dedicated to composition, CD production, and sound engineering. Meiri has won numerous jazz competitions; his music is heavily influenced by Mediterranean melodies and oriental rhythms. Shira Karmon Born in Israel, soprano Shira Karmon has performed at various opera houses and music festivals across Europe, including the Saarbrücken State Theatre, Teatro Comunale di Bolzano, Opera National du Rhin, and in Verbier, at festivals such as "Out of Control" at Semperdepot in Vienna and "Wien Modern." As a concert singer, she has performed at the Berlin Concert House, Lincoln Center New York, Styriarte Graz, Brucknerhaus Linz, as well as in Israel, Argentina, and throughout Europe. Described by the Israeli radio station "Kol HaMusica" as a theatrical soprano in the best sense, she possesses "a fire [...], a primal power that makes one forget everything around her," according to the Passauer Neue Presse. Her repertoire includes 20th-century music like Stravinsky's "Les Noces," Sephardic and French songs, and special programs with Paul Gulda and the Karmon Vounelakos Trio at the Jewish Culture Festival Vienna and the Vienna Chamber Music Festival. She is a prizewinner of the "Song of the 20th and 21st Century" competition by the German Economy's Cultural Circle and received the award for best interpretation of Israeli music in Israel. Her fourth solo CD, "SHIRA," is scheduled for release in 2025. Clara Montocchio Clara Montocchio, a Vienna native with South African roots, skillfully bridges different genres and art forms as a singer, actress, dancer, and composer. Growing up in a musical family, she moved from classical music and musical theater to her great love, jazz. She has also immersed herself in the klezmer scene in recent years and has fallen in love with this beautiful, melancholic music. She is an in-demand soloist in the jazz and world music scene and studied pop/jazz singing at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. Her current projects include (besides Elias & The Yiddish Maidels).
