What's it about?

The State Museum and Judaism The special exhibition at the Austrian Jewish Museum in Eisenstadt shows the strong connections of Judaism in the founding of the Burgenland State Museum 100 years ago and in its early history. Four outstanding personalities with Jewish roots – Sándor Wolf, Karl Haulaunbrenner, Alphons Barb, and Michael Ferdinand Bothar – were at the beginning of the history of the State Museum and regional research in Burgenland. Their life and suffering paths during the Nazi era and their religious self-understanding could not be more different. The exhibition also discusses Sandor Wolf's collection activities, the origins of the Jewish Central Archives, and the handling of Jewish collection items during the Nazi period and after the war.
