What's it about?

Curated tour of the exhibition "Hinter Stacheldraht im karibischen Exil" (Behind Barbed Wire in Caribbean Exile) with Prof. Dr. Christian Cwik, who has worked in Curacao for many years. He invites you on a time travel to the Caribbean of the years 1938–1955. "Hinter Stacheldraht im karibischen Exil" The Research and Culture Association for Continental America and the Caribbean designed and realized an exhibition about an impressive and little-known chapter of exile history. The exhibition in the courtyard of the museum highlights the moving life story of Alfred "Fred" Fischer: from Vienna via Berlin and Amsterdam to the Caribbean, where as a Jewish refugee he not only built a new artistic existence but also documented years of internment photographically. A narrative of escape and new beginnings, of artistic expression under adverse circumstances, and of the power of images as witnesses of history.
