In the Empire Hall of Esterházy Palace, the four young musicians now present a magnificent program consisting of three milestones of the genre. With the half-dozen of his Opus 20, Joseph Haydn once elevated the string quartet to a new level of musical art. Half a century later, Ludwig van Beethoven opened the doors to modernity in his late string quartets – doors through which hardly anyone wanted to pass for a long time. Béla Bartók, for example, dared to do so. A matinee entirely dedicated to breathtaking innovations.
