SCHLOSS ESTERHÁZY – Residence and cultural site for several centuries Striking and imposing, Schloss Esterházy has been far more than the cultural center of Eisenstadt for centuries. As Joseph Haydn's former workplace, the cradle of Viennese Classicism, and the scene of magnificent concerts and festivals, the castle today attracts visitors as a museum and a contemporary event location. Unique exhibits in a historical ambiance invite you to explore the collections of the House of Esterházy. HAYDN EXPLOSIV – Classical music staged in a modern way The Sala Terrena of the castle is dedicated to the composer who conquered the world of music from Eisenstadt and Eszterháza: For about 40 years, Joseph Haydn served the Esterházy princes. The exhibition "Haydn explosiv. Music from revolutionary times" offers a refreshing insight into his work and the courtly environment. Historical exhibits and contemporary art merge into an experience for eyes and ears. HIGHLIGHTS – Treasures from the collections Furniture and artifacts collected over centuries bear witness to the artistic sensibility, patronage, and passion for collecting of the Esterházy princes. Precious porcelain, finely crafted table silver, and other unique works of art merge with the historical furnishings. A very special highlight of this permanent exhibition is the Haydnsaal, where major concerts are still regularly held today. MELINDA ESTERHÁZY – Exhibition in 5 Acts The exhibition "Melinda Esterházy. Life has given me a lot" leads you on the trail of an extraordinary woman. Touching objects and documents, as well as rare film material, open up a view of a personality who showed presence on stage and practiced restraint in private life. The exhibition guides you, almost like a play, through the life of the last princely couple in five acts. THE PRINCESS'S APARTMENT – Personal insights In the "Princess's Apartment," the private living quarters of three Esterházy princesses open up to you. The elaborately restored rooms provide an insight into their biographies and the aristocratic world of the 19th century. Imperial guests are just as present as the chambermaid and other servants who ensured the smooth running of the court behind the scenes. WINE MUSEUM – Historic cellar A long history connects the House of Esterházy and wine – this can be experienced in the castle cellar. Where wines for the princely rulers were once stored, today one of Austria's largest wine museums is housed. The adjoining castle kitchen supplied the princely table with delicious dishes. Thus, in the cellar, wine, courtly everyday life, and the architecture of medieval walls meet. FOR CHILDREN AND FAMILIES Special guided tours and programs for children and school groups make the castle visit an experience for even the youngest visitors.
