Presented by Arcadia Live. Tocotronic are one of the most successful and influential German-speaking rock bands of the last decades. Their debut album "Digital ist besser" was released in 1995 and combines powerful yet simple guitar rock with lyrics full of slogans that immediately became catchphrases, such as "Ich möchte Teil einer Jugendbewegung sein" (I want to be part of a youth movement). Over the years, their music became increasingly opulent. Likewise, the autofictional often combines with Tocotronic's typical art of elevating the everyday into the transcendental. An art that is further refined on their fourteenth album "Golden Years" from 2025. It deals with the journeys that lie behind one and the journeys that are yet to come, at the same time the songs tell of the longing for home and security, of the passing of time and of the trust in the future that only love can create. "Golden Years" is equally intimate and political; those who know Tocotronic will find it familiar and yet completely new. Because like no other German band, they have created a work over decades - a work in the full and good sense of the word: a work shaped by artistic development and by a lived life, a work of music and of songs that emerge from each other, that answer each other and question each other; a work in which leitmotifs remain recognizable, which are varied and renewed again and again and which are questioned again and again as to how they fit into the changing present. "Golden Years" is about aging, the happiness of maturity and the fear of death, but above all it is about the incessant new beginning from the spirit of self-reflection, about the utopias of resurrection and endless becoming. It shows a band that has always managed to renew itself and at the same time remain true to itself: recognizable in change. Perhaps this can explain why Tocotronic's music, after all this time and especially in our uncomfortable present, can still and always again provide so much happiness and so much comfort.
