Ebenthaler Krampuslauf

What's it about?

The Ebenthaler Krampuslauf is a traditional customs parade in the Carinthian town of Ebenthal in Carinthia and is part of the lively winter customs in the Alpine region. During the Krampuslauf, elaborately costumed performers as Krampus and Perchten march through the streets, spreading a mixture of eerie atmosphere and authentic Alpine tradition. The Krampus is considered in Alpine folk culture as a companion of Saint Nicholas and causes mischief during the pre-Christmas season. Such runs are deeply rooted in Carinthia, Styria, and Tyrol and attract numerous spectators from the entire region each year. Ebenthal is located very close to Klagenfurt on Lake Wörth. The parade takes place outdoors and offers an impressive setting of torches, elaborate costumes, and the characteristic noise of the Krampus bells.
