Schloss Rosenegg in Ebenthal

Rosenegg Castle is actually a manor house dating from the late 16th century. Until the dissolution of the monastery under Josef II in 1786, it was a feudal estate of Viktring Abbey and emerged from three Huben (farmsteads) and a mill, which had been registered in the Urbare (land registers) of Viktring Monastery under the designation "an der Glan" since the 15th century. The current castle building was erected in 1592 by Johann Franz Greisenegg. The exterior appearance of the castle was largely altered in the 1950s. Rosenegg Castle is a two-story building covered with a mighty hip roof, which in its layout with a continuous, west-east oriented "Querlabn" (transverse hall) with an adjoining staircase corresponds to the type of today's "Kärntner Stöckel" or "Mittellabnhaus" (central hall house). The interior of the building is particularly significant in terms of architectural history, as room and vault forms from the 16th century are very well documented. The inhabited property is privately owned.
