What's it about?

Three wind players, Max Nagl, trumpeter Martin Eberle and trombonist Phil Yaeger, plus piano with Georg Vogel and bass with Gregor Aufmesser, present fifteen Nagl pieces, cast in elaborate arrangements, plus a composition by Anthony Braxton. The musicians represented here are all luminaries of the Austrian jazz scene. The focus is on the sophisticated compositions. Nagl's concept knows no role models. From afar, the Jimmy Giuffre 3 with Bob Brookmeyer and Jim Hall greets. Anthony Braxton's music of the 1970s is a point of reference, and church hymns, salon, variety, and circus music also resonate. Pastoral sounds are not avoided, but sought after. Often the music is played restrainedly to muted, at other times properly accelerated, which then furiously whirls the various melody particles around. Solos are tailored to the spirit of the respective piece. This music has no room for ego trips. Everything is geared towards the sole goal...
