The musical Hair originated in New York in 1967 and is considered the first great rock musical in history. It reflects the spirit of the late 1960s - a time characterized by protests against the Vietnam War, the emergence of the hippie movement, and the call for peace, love, and freedom. At its center is a group of young people - the so-called Tribe - who rebel in New York against war, racism, social constraints, and political authority. They live by the motto "Make Love, Not War" and seek a life in harmony with nature and themselves. Central themes are freedom, identity, sexuality, and the rejection of the establishment. Book and lyrics by Gerome Ragni and James Rado Music by Galt MacDermont German dialogues by Nico Rabenald
