Nationalpark-Ausstellung "Erlebnis Zirbe"

What's it about?

St. Jakob in Defereggen, which can count the Oberhauser Zirbenwald as its territory—the largest contiguous Swiss pine forest in the Eastern Alps—literally breathes a sigh of relief through its alpine healing climate. The very slow-growing Swiss pine can live up to 1,000 years, reach a diameter of up to two meters, and a height of just over 20 meters. Special schnapps and liqueurs are made from its cones. Woodcarvers in the region use almost exclusively the soft Swiss pine wood for their artworks. Visitors can learn about this and much more regarding the tree, which belongs to the pine family, in the free exhibition "Erlebnis Zirbe" at the Handelshaus in the center of St. Jakob in Defereggen.
