Helene Kuchar-Haderlap, who grew up on Vinklhof, is the contemporary version of Mother Courage. Under the code name "JELKA" (fir tree), she joined the resistance in World War II, experiencing the terror of the Gestapo firsthand. When others withdrew in disappointment after the war, she continued to fight. Today, her partisan name stands for civic courage, wit, perseverance, and shrewdness, as well as for the everyday struggle for a more just world and freedom. The band "Schmetterlinge" dedicated the song "Drei rote Pfiffe" to "JELKA" in the 1970s. "JELKA" has today become a symbolic figure for the young generation in the German-, Slovenian-, and French-speaking cultural areas. Hiking information: Start at Vinklhof at 9:30 AM. Distance: 10 km.
