fokus sammlung 08. ABSTRAKT. Material+Struktur

What's it about?

The current exhibition is the eighth project in the series "fokus sammlung," which was introduced in 2010. After exploring traditional themes of painting such as human figures, still life, landscapes, and animal depictions, the focus shifted in 2020 with the exhibition "Geometrie und Konzept" (Geometry and Concept) to abstract art. The current project, "Material and Structure," is interested in the liberation of color, its development from descriptive local color to an autonomous medium and malleable material, as well as its substitution and abolition. This also involves the transition from panel painting to object, from surface to space, which in modern art and post-war avant-garde was achieved through material painting and color painting — from Constructivism through Concrete Art and Color Field Painting to Minimal Art. The artists in our collection exhibition build upon the results of these processes. Some even directly, such as Hans Bischoffshausen, Otto Piene, and others.
