
The concept by Hayato Mizutani was chosen as the winning project in the open art competition for the realization of an art installation in the castle chapel of the Museum Moderner Kunst Kärnten in 2026. In a multi-stage selection process, the artist, born in Japan in 1985, prevailed against 123 competitors from Austria and abroad. Hayato Mizutani completed his art studies at the Hochschule für bildende Künste Hamburg. Prior to that, he studied architecture at the Tokyo University of Science and then at the University of Liechtenstein. Since 2019, he has lived and worked in Munich. The starting point of the project "Weiße Leere" is the question of how an artistic intervention can unfold a dialogue with the specific spatial quality of the castle chapel.
