KSO Neujahrskonzert I - Ode an die Freude
What's it about?
NEW YEAR'S CONCERTS / Conductor Chin-Chao Lin / Choir and Extra Choir of the City Theatre Klagenfurt / Chamber Choir Klagenfurt-Wörthersee / Carinthian Symphony Orchestra "O friends, not these tones! But let us sing more pleasant and joyful ones!" With this appeal, Ludwig van Beethoven opens the final movement of his Ninth Symphony, celebrating the worldwide joy inspired by Friedrich Schiller's words, who in 1785 paid tribute to the idea of a humanity united in friendship. But joy is fragile – politically and individually, then and now. And so, at the beginning of a new year, it is worthwhile to honor the past, while looking to the future with confidence and hope. This new year invites just that, especially as it marks the 200th anniversary of Beethoven's death. The utopia he left behind still resonates today.
