In 2025, 88 minutes, directed by Nicole Scherg "Birth does not follow a schedule": Director Nicole Scherg's documentary follows five midwives in Ethiopia, Brazil, Morocco, Nepal, and Austria. A documentary about nothing less than our human emergence and its circumstances. They are the women who first saw us in the world: the five heroines of the film have assisted in thousands of births, and are experts in the most important thing in the world: helping mothers bring a child into the world. Director Nicole Scherg ("Life is No Rehearsal") accompanies Genet Gebru from Ethiopia, "Hajja" Aïcha El Fathi from Casablanca, Morocco, Kanchan Mala Shrestha from Nepal, Gunda Gutscher from Neulengbach in Lower Austria, and Sheila Santos from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, as well as the mothers giving birth to their children with them. Filming took place over 40 days in Vienna, Mexico, Siberia, Malawi, the United Arab Emirates, and Rio de Janeiro. Nicole Scherg worked with an all-female team, including cinematographer Maria-Thérèse Zumtobel and sound engineer Eva Hausberger. We look forward to welcoming director Nicole Scherg and to the subsequent audience discussion with her.
