"A Ramble Through Vienna" Sebastian Holecek - Baritone Jimmy Chiang - Piano This liederabend invites you on a musical-literary journey through Vienna. The starting point is the "Viennese in the Opera": Papageno from Mozart's Magic Flute - a character who embodies much of what the Wienerlied also sings about with his joy of life and earthiness. From there, the arc stretches to the Kremser Alben, a true treasure trove of classic Wienerlied. Well-known titles such as Der alte Drahrer or Was a Öst'reich is lead into the world of traditional Viennese music - full of charm, humor and melancholy. Between the songs, cheerful texts by Krutisch and Josef Weinheber provide literary nuances. Poems are juxtaposed with Wienerlieder and connected by a narrative common thread that guides through the program and illuminates different facets of the Viennese soul. The conclusion consists of two timeless classics of the Wienerlied: Wien wird schön erst bei Nacht and Wien, Wien nur du allein! - musical declarations of love to a city whose atmosphere, wit and feeling are inextricably linked with the Wienerlied to this day.
