Gösseum (ehem. Gösser Braumuseum)

Leoben, Styria

museumstourausstellung

The Gösseum, formerly Gösser Brewery Museum, is located in Göss (Leoben). To experience the museum in all its facets thoroughly, it is highly recommended to register for a guided tour in advance. Special needs can be specified when booking. The staff is very friendly and helpful – great care is taken to keep all routes as short as possible. There are two entrances to the Gösseum: at the entrance via the Museum Pavilion (from Saturday to Sunday), a ramp is available. The entrance for museum tours (from Monday to Friday) also has an incline. The disabled parking space is marked on the ground. The path from the disabled parking to the pavilion involves overcoming a curb that is 13 cm high. The path is quite long (more than 100 meters) and passes through the Stiftspark. However, upon request, parking can also be arranged in the Stiftspark, reducing the distance to just a few meters to the entrance. Buses can drive directly onto the brewery grounds – from the bus parking to the entrance, there is a 9% incline. Along the way from the disabled parking to the museum entrance, there is an optical guidance system – although the route is quite long. Several curb edges and uneven surfaces must also be crossed. Once the way to the museum is navigated, there is nothing to hinder the enjoyment of the museum and beer: signage is clearly visible throughout. Exhibits and information panels are also easily viewable for wheelchair users and children. The exhibition features many interactive elements. For example, visitors can feel and smell the raw materials needed for brewing beer. Multimedia displays and many audible information points complete the sensory museum experience. Guided tours start in the Museum Pavilion with a welcome, then proceed via a connecting corridor with a slight incline to the museum. The first floor of the museum is accessible by lift. The staircase is marked. Then, via a ramp (10%), visitors reach the demonstration room. At the end of the tour, visitors go to the Malztenne, where a beer tasting is held. There are two barrier-free toilets: one in the Museum Pavilion, where the tours begin, and one in the Malztenne, where the tours end. Dogs are not permitted due to hygiene regulations. Analysis conducted in September 2016.
