Konzert Winterwonderland - Bigband Köflach
What's it about?
The Bigband Köflach was founded in 2000 by Günter Riedenbauer, with musicians mostly coming from the Köflach area and West Styria at the time. Over the past 20 years, the orchestra has continuously developed and now features musicians from all over Styria as well as from abroad, performing at a very high level. With the concert "WINTERWONDERLAND" – the traditional Christmas concert of Bigband Köflach, first performed in 2002 – Bigband Köflach is making its debut at the Steinhalle Lannach. Since then, this concert has been held annually in Köflach on two evenings and has become a fixed part of the pre-Christmas season, also serving as the musical highlight of Advent. The Bigband Köflach, led by bandleader Günter Riedenbauer, has created a new style with "Winterwonderland." It is not only about classical big band music but also about Christmas titles presented in a distinctive and unique manner, with modern and new arrangements. Besides the big band sound, the vocals of three female singers and the bandleader are also prominent. The program includes swinging American Christmas songs, fitting Christmas music from our alpine cultural circle, as well as music by Udo Jürgens, George Michael, and Slavko Avsenik, among others. This interesting mix and the band’s own arrangements continually reveal new facets, with the program changing annually. The musical program is enlivened by saxophonist Walter Zapfl’s humorous commentary, which provides some laughs along the way. Winterwonderland features songs like Christmas-Time all over the world, Merry Christmas Polka (Andrew Sisters), Eisblumen (Udo Jürgens), Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Sterne der heiligen Nacht (Slavko Avsenik), Zwei Spuren im Schnee (Viko Torriani), It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas, Last Christmas (George Michael), Weihnacht is neama wie (Ausseer Hardbradler), Mele Kaliki Maka (Bing Crosby), Ich war noch niemals in New York (Udo Jürgens), Felize Navidad, Süßer die Glocken nie klingen, and others... Music for the heart and soul with a high musical standard – Christmas atmosphere for young and old is guaranteed!
