A NEW LIGHT A sound journey from silence into light On November 8th, the chorforum.gleisdorf invites to a special concert evening at the Stadtpfarrkirche Gleisdorf. "A new light" – this title stands for the light that reaches us through music, for hope and confidence, but also for a very personal new beginning: This concert is also the first performance of the chorforum.gleisdorf under the new choir director Yu-Hao Lorenz. There are moments when a single sound is enough to change a room. A breath. A voice. A quiet tone that arises from silence – and suddenly something begins to shine. "A New Light" is a musical journey through exactly these moments: a journey from darkness to light, from silence to sound, from longing to hope. We start our concert evening simply and intimately with "If ye love me" by Thomas Tallis. The voices initially seem to come from another world: clear, calm, and immediate. With Morten Lauridsen’s "O magnum mysterium," this sound opens further. Floating harmonies and luminous sound colors create a space of wonder – a moment when time and everyday life seem to stand still for a brief instant. Then the light becomes stronger. Ēriks Ešenvalds’ "Magnificat" makes the human voice shine in all its colors and possibilities. Intimacy and strength, calm and movement meet. The music transcends the personal and becomes a shared expression of joy, hope, and trust. The highlight of our musical journey is Ola Gjeilo’s "Sunrise Mass." Like the first rays of a new day, the music slowly unfolds from darkness. Soundscapes emerge, condense, and spread further and further. The orchestra and voices merge into a vast, almost limitless soundscape. And perhaps that is the meaning of "A New Light": Light does not mean that there is no more darkness. Light means that we can recognize a way in the darkness. Music can accompany us on this path. "A New Light" is an invitation to pause for an evening, to listen, and to be touched. An invitation to discover the first ray of light together. And perhaps to go home with a new light and a new sound.
