The artist Lisa Maria Wordcel – awarded the Burgenland Diploma Prize 2025 – presents a scenographic sunbath titled Guardian Angel Protection Factor in her first exhibition in Burgenland. Bedroom pictures – borrowed from the provincial collection – promise bourgeois peace and retreat. For Wordcel, they become the backdrop for her still lifes. Her paintings are balanced, physically heavy, and tense. Everything in them appears less physically real than psycho-real. A space emerges from domestic intimacy, institutional order, and psychological surveillance. Lisa Maria Wordcel (*1992) lives and works in Vienna. In addition to her studies in art history and classical archaeology at the University of Vienna, she completed the painting class with Henning Bohl at the University of Applied Arts, Vienna, in 2025.
