Gaetano Donizetti: ANNA BOLENA

Saturday 2 January · 11:00Tiroler Festspiele Erl · tirol

What's it about?

Anna Bolena tells the tragic story of Anne Boleyn, the second wife of Henry VIII, whose rise and fall is one of the most impressive female destinies in opera literature. With this work, Gaetano Donizetti achieved his international breakthrough in 1830 at the Teatro Carcano in Milan. The opera is considered a highlight of bel canto and was impressively rediscovered in the 20th century by Maria Callas. Since then, the most renowned sopranos in the world have competed in the demanding title role. In Erl, the work will be performed concert-style. With Marigona Qerkezi, the Tirol Festival presents one of the most exciting young voices in the bel canto scene. She will be joined by Aigul Akhmetshina making her debut as Jane Seymour. This continues the successful bel canto cycle after I puritani and La sonnambula.
