Amy Macdonald dances to her own tune. The highly regarded singer-songwriter — one of Scotland's most successful musical exports of all time — has long been celebrated for her unrestrained attitude, which is reflected both in her music and her legendary live performances. The commercial success speaks for itself: over 12 million records sold worldwide, four top-5 albums (including two number-one placements), more than a billion streams, and five million monthly listeners on Spotify alone, along with worldwide tours before millions of people. Recently, Amy was and is ready to remind the world once again why we fell in love with her, as she returned in 2025 with a bold new collection of songs, "Is This What You’ve Been Waiting For?". Her sixth album marks a new chapter in her extraordinary career, which began when she was just 18 years old. Her debut album "This Is the Life" was one of the ten best-selling albums worldwide in 2008 and catapulted Macdonald to international fame with singles like the title track — which later experienced a viral comeback thanks to TikTok — as well as the top-20 single "Mr Rock and Roll". This was followed by a series of top-10 albums, sold-out world tours, and numerous awards, including two Echo Awards (Germany's Grammys). "Is This What You’ve Been Waiting For?" showcases Macdonald at the peak of her songwriting ability, telling stories of heartbreak, triumph, and hope. "Every single song has its own little story, that's how I usually write," she explains. She vividly recalls a moment at the TRNSMT Festival in Glasgow when she looked out at the crowd and realized how many young fans were in the audience: "I was afraid it would be terrible, that they wouldn't have a clue who I am, and then it turned out to be one of the greatest performances of my life," she says. "This younger generation, which had just been completely taken for a ride by Covid, the government, everything... and they were just happy, full of joy. I thought: We are in good hands."
