What's it about?

The association "ArcheKult" is once again inviting to its traditional "Festival of Archaeology". This year, the focus is on Bronze Age Greece. The Mycenaean culture (1600 to 1050 BC) reached its peak with the emergence of the palace centers of Mycenae and Tiryns, Pylos, and Thebes. Its sphere of influence extended from Greece to Asia Minor. It is no coincidence that the Mycenaean ruler Agamemnon was the commander of the Greeks on the way to Troy. However, his triumph in the war ultimately also sealed his downfall. There is certainly more than a grain of truth in the literary tradition. The dramatic events at the end of the Bronze Age, which led to severe crises from Egypt to Greece, have been called the "First Collapse of Civilization" by English historian Eric Cline. The palaces of Mycenae were largely abandoned — but does this mean the culture was completely gone and vanished...
