What's it about?

Book by CARL GROSE Lyrics by CARL GROSE, TOM MORRIS, TIM PHILLIPS & MARC TEITLER Music by TIM PHILLIPS & MARC TEITLER German translation by ALEXANDER SUCHARDT Based on the novel "L’Homme qui rit" ("The Man with the Laughter") by VICTOR HUGO A dark fairy tale, an extraordinary love story, and a soundtrack that touches the soul: THE GRINNING MAN is coming to the stage in German for the first time! The West End musical, acclaimed by critics and audiences alike, based on the novel "The Laughing Man" by Victor Hugo (also author of Les Misérables and The Hunchback of Notre-Dame), combines magical storytelling, quirky humor, and deep emotions into an extraordinary theatrical experience with live music. An abandoned child with an unnatural grin becomes the sensation of the fairground — celebrated and ostracized at the same time. When he falls in love with a blind woman, intrigues, betrayal, and the search for his true identity threaten to destroy everything. The Man with the Laughter is a darkly touching musical about love, societal depths, and the destructive yet liberating power of laughter. German-language premiere Austrian premiere
