Snow of Yesteryear: Glaciers. Climate. Research.
What's it about?
Glaciers are considered important indicators of climate change. In Austria, glaciers are melting at a rapid pace. By the middle of this century, there will be hardly any glaciers left in the Eastern Alps. The exhibition at the Schlossmuseum, created in collaboration with the Institute for Interdisciplinary Mountain Research in Innsbruck, shows how glaciers are researched and what an important role they play in understanding climate change. At the center of the exhibition is an ice core from the Ötztal Alps, from which up to 6,000 years of climate history can be read. Like in an archive, the ice stores data on the composition of the air, temperature, but also on the spread of plants and much more. More about the exhibition
