Exhibition "BILDSTÖRUNG" by NÖDOK on TOUR

What's it about?

With works by Natascha Auenhammer, Christian Bazant-Hegemark, Peter Baldinger, Bettina Beranek, Robert Davis, Walter Ebenhofer, Wolfgang Grinschgl, Caroline Heider, Harding Meyer, Gabi Mitterer, Georg Pummer, Fritz Simak, Jürgen Wagner, Robert Zahornicky Concept and curating: Hartwig Knack When we look through a textured glass pane or beneath a moving water surface to visually perceive objects, they behave in a bizarre, strangely disturbed, and deformed manner in their external appearance. In the field of visual media, 'Bildstörung' (image disturbance) refers to accidentally communicated information that causes unwanted changes in the transmitted signal. We all know the phenomenon when satellite reception disturbances or poor digital data transfer cause distortions in the television image or streamed film. The participating artists deliberately explore such and other exciting visual deformations, illusions, and mirages, developing them further in their works, because in a random image disturbance or a sensory illusion, what is otherwise invisible can be observed. From this perspective, the disturbance itself gains both substantive and aesthetic informational value. Digital resolution, realism, blurriness, and anomalies meet analog creation. Distorted faces, landscapes, nature, or imaginary fantastic architectures emerge. They tell stories of visual perception, psychological states, feigned reality, and the shattering of optical relationships. Opening: Friday, November 13, 2026, at 7:30 PM Opening hours: Saturday and Sunday, November 14, 15, 21, and 22, 2026, from 10 AM to 12 PM and from 2 PM to 5 PM.
