Eventually, my own style somehow seemed to prevail - and no longer Rilke-esque (like Rilke). And that was Die Bettlerschale. Christine Lavant, she chose the pseudonym after the river of her homeland, was born in 1915 as the ninth child of a mining family. She earned her living through the arduous work of hand-knitting, predominantly at night. Martha Jarolim reads a selection of poems from Die Bettlerschale, as well as one letter each from Christine Lavant to her beloved Werner Berg and one from Berg to his beloved. The digits from Lavant's birth and death dates form a scale. Helge Stiegler chooses the D minor scale and composes all the music from this tonal material.
