Ohad Naharin . Batsheva Dance Company
What's it about?
Sadeh21 is both delicate and explosive: Ohad Naharin challenges his dancers to capture the complexity of human emotions through extreme movements. In Sadeh21, the dancers of the Batsheva Dance Company transform their movements into an overwhelming flow of danced images. The title means 'Field' in Hebrew – in the sense of an open, initially empty space that the dancers continually redefine through body, space, and movement. From this field, Ohad Naharin develops a choreography that explores the dynamics of solos, duets, and group choreographies, in which clear lines and formations constantly dissolve into surprising, natural disorder. The bodies of the 18 dancers cut through the air, sharp as a knife and yet fragile, as they push the limits of their mobility. Accompanied by music from Brian Eno and David Darling, the performance unfolds as a sensitive yet exciting and sometimes humorous portrayal of human complexity, where risk, change, and the joy of movement are central. Ohad Naharin, resident choreographer of the Batsheva Dance Company, is one of the most influential choreographers of our time. With the movement language Gaga, he has developed a dance language that extends far beyond the contemporary scene and influences pop culture as well. Sadeh21 was commissioned by the Israel Festival in Jerusalem and the Luminato – Toronto Festival of Arts & Creativity, and was produced by the Batsheva Dance Company with generous support from the Michael-Sela Fund for the Promotion of Young Artists.
