With works by CORNELIA CAUFMANN, BARBARA DOSER, MICHAEL ENDLICHER, RAINER FRIEDL, ROBERT GRUBER, KATJA HIMMELBAUER, VIKTORIA KÖRÖSI, GEORG LEBZELTER, GABRIELE LEHNER, CHRISTINE MARINGER, CHEIKH NIASS, GISELA REIMER, BRIGITTE SASSHOFER, DEBORAH SENGL, FRITZ SIMAK, JÜRGEN WAGNER Concept and curation: WOLFGANG GIEGLER The exhibition explores the various functions of images. It features photographic images, paintings, objects, and sculptures as visual material through which worlds of imagination are sparked. The themes of the exhibition range from the character of images, abstraction, alienation, symbolism, to word art and the concept of image prohibition or image conflict. The exhibition tells of artistic motives, impulses, and perspectives, and also addresses the materiality and the often complex modes of expression and appearance of the works. Central to the exhibition idea is the circularity of image, meaning, construction, and deconstruction of content, as reflected in the title. The antinomy of image and word is made visible and simultaneously resolved through the exhibition. Everyday perspectives play a role in dialogue with the exhibition as much as advanced forms of image theory in history and the present. Sensory experience and intellectual comprehensibility are important points of the exhibition's communication. The artists have connections to cultural fields in Lower Austria. They were born here and/or live and work here, and are represented in important Lower Austrian collections with their works. Opening on Friday, October 16 at 7 p.m. at the Rathaus Scheibbs. Exhibition duration: October 19 – 30, 2026, during the office hours of the Scheibbs municipal government.
