Die Fledermaus

Saturday 25 July · 17:30Theater Reichenau · niederoesterreich

What's it about?

Happy is he who forgets. Or remembers? For example, the year 1926. On August 1st of that year, an old wood grinding mill in Reichenau was converted into a theatre and opened with Die Fledermaus. One hundred years later, the Reichenau Festival returns to precisely these origins: with a new edition, which also takes place in Vienna in 1926. Nils Strunk and Lukas Schrenk are now dedicating themselves for the first time to a grand operetta, not to say: the operetta par excellence. Their version of Die Fledermaus pulsates to the rhythm of the "Roaring Twenties": Swing, Blues, and Charleston meet the immortal melodies of Johann Strauß. An era on a knife's edge between economic hardship and escapism, hyperinflation and hedonism. In this dance on the volcano, the entanglement unfolds around the wealthy Gabriel von Eisenstein, who, instead of ending up in prison, lands at a party in the city's most notorious cabaret: the "Palais Orlofsky". The champagne corks pop and the fragile facade of bourgeois decency begins to crumble ... An excellent live band and a top-class ensemble of acting and musical theatre perform in this intoxicating mélange of the Golden Operetta Era and the Golden Twenties. In July 2026, the "Palais Orlofsky" opens its doors. Will you be there? Cast: Direction, Music and Text Adaptation: Nils Strunk & Lukas Schrenk Production: Julia Wagner, Tina Schmidt With: Helmut Bohatsch Julia Edtmeier Gerhard Kasal Peter Lesiak Eva Mayer Jakob Semotan Sebastian Wendelin et al.
