Thomas Maurer - Maurer.Kafka.Komisch – Matinée!

Sunday 1 November · 11:00Kabarett Niedermair · wien

What's it about?

The Kafka we learned about in German class, painted in dark gray to black, hopeless, inescapable, and sadly gloomy, is probably familiar to most of us. Many of us have preferred to avoid him in our later lives because of that experience. Thomas Maurer aims to show a different side of Kafka that is not really a different side, but often just a different perspective. Kafka's humor is similar to those oddly patterned optical illusions you can stare at for a long time without seeing the supposedly hidden images. Once you discover them, they never go away. Isn't it also - funny - when someone wakes up in the morning as an insect and, enclosed, pretends nothing is wrong for as long as possible? Thomas Maurer will introduce this Kafka on this evening. He cannot promise a fireworks display of punchlines, but he can promise a fine, bright, alert, and repeatedly grotesque comedy, written by one of the greatest German-speaking writers and performed by a rather seasoned cabaret veteran. It was probably felt close to him. He could be enthusiastic and captivated; there was no end to the joking and laughing; he liked to laugh heartily and knew how to make his friends laugh. He was a wonderfully helpful friend." - Max Brod I can also laugh, Felice! Franz Kafka Press reviews: Certainly the most effortless contribution of a theater to the Kafka Year, perhaps the best: Thomas Maurer reads selected texts. Completely in civilian clothes. The only show effect: blackouts. Very funny. The press / Thomas Kramar The evening becomes spectacular with Kafka's staccato and commentary. After two hours, you have a crash course in Kafka that reveals the genius of both participants this evening. Der Standard / Michael Wurmitzer Thomas Maurer effortlessly manages: a truly funny - and also culturally valuable evening. Kurier / Thomas Trenkler
