What's it about?

By Manfred Schild, winner of the Austrian Comedy Prize Porcia 2025 (premiere) "Welcome to the new reality!" Josef can't believe his eyes: there's a complete stranger in his kitchen, calmly preparing breakfast. But that's not all: Jan, his eloquent and well-dressed counterpart, firmly claims that it's his own apartment. After all attempts to prove the opposite fail miserably, Josef is left with only the desperate hope that his wife Margit will shed some light on the situation. But she also sides with Jan, and Josef slowly realizes that he is suddenly falling out of the reality he has known until now and might even be replaced by a doppelganger... The text by Tyrolean author and theater maker Manfred Schild, awarded the Austrian Comedy Prize Porcia 2025, satirizes the self-optimization craze of our modern society by bitingly reversing, bending, and questioning our familiar reality. After the 2026 Comedy Plays, the award-winning production in this staging will also be shown in autumn at our cooperation partner Schauspielhaus Salzburg.
