About the history In 1493, the St. Leonhard district court condemned Cristina Trünkhlin, Barbara Ößlin, and Wolfin as witches. According to the Urgicht, the "confession" extorted under torture on March 21, 1493, the three women were said to have used harmful magic against the lord of the castle, Wolfgang von Pain. The trial is considered the first in Austria where the accusation of a "pact with the devil" led to executions. As a result of the trial, other people were accused of witchcraft – the exact number of victims is unknown. About the Monument In today's Bad St. Leonhard, an artist, Adina Camhy, realized a monument in 2025 that commemorates the three people condemned in 1493 and all other victims of witch persecution in the Lavanttal. The monument refers to a passage from the Urgicht of 1493: "When they were together, they agreed [...]".
