Your recreation area for body, mind and soul. The Gomarn castle ruin is located near the town of Bad St. Leonhard i.Lav. on a wooded hill. The original layout of the castle probably dates from the 11th or 12th century - it is first mentioned in 1287 - but the current wall remains date back to parts of the 12th to 15th centuries. The four-story main building of the castle, facing northeast, received a strong outer wall in the 15th century, which is still preserved today. The town's defensive wall, which is still well preserved in places today, also enclosed the castle. The castle's wooden parts were destroyed by fire in 1762, but it was rebuilt. In 1808 it burned down again, and since then the fire-damaged ruin has not been rebuilt. The walls of the castle were reinforced by the municipality of Bad St. Leonhard i.Lav. (the current owner) to such an extent that the ruin can be entered by locals and holiday guests without danger. In the castle courtyard, which is shaded by a large chestnut tree, there are wooden tables and benches, as castle festivals, Schlossberg festivals, and other events are offered here in summer by the associations of the town of Bad St. Leonhard i.Lav. On the slope in front of the castle walls there is a well-maintained park with beautiful walking paths, as well as a mini-golf course - from here the view extends over the town to the heights of the Koralpe.
