schmaler Grat

What's it about?

"schmaler Grat" is Kunstverein Kärnten's contribution to the Triennale IVKärnten 2026. The connection between the Triennale theme "schwach.šibko.debole" and schmaler Grat lies in the idea of vulnerability: whoever balances on a narrow ridge is susceptible to disturbances – is "weak" against external influences. Yet precisely this state reveals a special quality of being. We are rooted in the here and now – and floating at the same time. Art can be an in-between land here, reaching out into another reality. Like a faint glimmer that penetrates the membrane that seems to separate the worlds. This border experience is also omnipresent in artistic creation itself: in the intuitive decision of whether a work is already complete or, in the admission of the inadequate, is better discarded.
