Rosa Riedl Schutzgespenst
What's it about?
By Christine Nöstlinger / Stage adaptation by Sabine Kristof-Kranzelbinder / Music by Mira Gregorič / Song lyrics by YASMO "Look, girl," whispered Rosa close to Nasti's ear, "whether angel or ghost, the main thing is that the protector is there! That's what counts, right?" Nasti is eleven years old and mostly afraid: of being alone, of dark rooms, of dogs – she's always afraid. Suddenly, she receives help – from Rosa Riedl – her courageous "protection ghost" with a good heart. She was once a caretaker in a Viennese municipal building. In 1938, Rosa was very angry that the Nazis forced Mr. Fischl to clean the street with a toothbrush. When she tried to help him cross the street, she overlooked the tram and was fatally hit. Since then, she has been a ghost tirelessly fighting for justice and now actively intervenes in Nasti's life. Of course, some ghostly occurrences in Nasti's environment are not long hidden, but fortunately Rosa Riedl quickly becomes sympathetic to everyone after a brief fright. But then she disappears due to a mishap, and Nasti must overcome all her fears and help her protection ghost. Lovingly and with much humor, the great Austrian children's author Christine Nöstlinger tells in her 1979 novel, awarded the Austrian Youth Book Prize, about justice, friendship, and the necessity of standing up for others. Sabine Kristof-Kranzelbinder has dramatized the fantastic novel and will stage her own adaptation in her directorial debut at the Stadttheater Klagenfurt for our young audience. Musically, Mira Gregorič and YASMO will support her. Julia Stemberger has been cast in the role of Rosa Riedl.
