What's it about?

The "Bauernherbst" (farmer's autumn) is a very special time in our region. Numerous events and traditional festivals line the event calendar in the so-called "5th season". Festive atmosphere everywhere and delicious regional delicacies, of course homemade by the local farmers themselves. An absolute highlight in autumn is the Almabtrieb (cattle drive). The traditional Dachstein Almabtrieb begins on Friday, September 25, 2026, with "Schottenrühren" (a traditional dish) and musical entertainment at the Walcheralm. On Saturday, September 26, 2026, the festival starts at 9:00 AM with an alpine breakfast at the Walcheralm. The animals will be decorated for the Almabtrieb from 11:00 AM, starting from the Walcheralm along the Dachsteinstraße to the Walcherhof. Music and entertainment will be provided at the "Hoamfoarfest" (homecoming festival) at the Walcherhof from 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
