What's it about?

The Bauernherbst (Farmer's Autumn) is a very special time in our region. Numerous events and traditional festivals line the event calendar during the so-called '5th season'. Everywhere, there is festive atmosphere and delicious regional delicacies, naturally made by local farmers. An absolute highlight of the autumn season is the Almabtrieb (cattle drive from the mountain pasture). The traditional Dachstein Almabtrieb begins on Friday, September 25, 2026, with the 'Schottenrühren' (a traditional event) and musical entertainment at the Walcheralm. On Saturday, September 26, 2026, the festival starts at 09:00 with an Almfrühstück (mountain pasture breakfast) at the Walcheralm. During this time, the animals will be decorated for the Almabtrieb starting at 11:00, and the procession will begin from the Walcheralm along the Dachsteinstraße to the Walcherhof. Music and entertainment are provided at the 'Hoamfoarfest' at the Walcherhof from 10:00 to 17:00.
