The homage to the grandseigneur of German entertainment music is hugely praised by the audience and is rewarded each evening with standing ovations. The Austrian, who won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1966, celebrated a worldwide hit with "Merci Chérie," which topped charts in over 20 countries. Thus, the chansonnier became one of the most significant entertainers of the 20th and early 21st centuries. With more than 100 million records sold and over 50 albums released, he was one of the most commercially successful male solo artists in the world. His life, his love, his music – a tribute to the grandseigneur of the entertainment industry. "The Udo Jürgens Story" offers fans the opportunity to get very close to their idol once again. The extraordinary homage to the grandseigneur of German entertainment is packaged in a captivating evening of songs – curated by Gabriela Benesch, who was awarded as Vienna's best theater actress of the year. She also performs on stage, sharing exciting, humorous, and sometimes unknown anecdotes from the personal records of the great entertainer – spanning from his childhood to old age. Alex Parker performs the works of the unforgettable Schlager singer as if he were on stage himself. The musical journey includes all major hits like "Mit 66 Jahren," "Griechischer Wein," "Liebe ohne Leiden," "Merci Chérie," "Ich war noch niemals in New York," and some rarities. In the style of the entertainer, he accompanies himself on the piano. The concert evening is directed by Swiss-Austrian actor, director, and author Erich Furrer.
