What's it about?

Schiller's 'The Robbers' meet the present day Friedrich Schiller's 'The Robbers' is a drama about freedom, power, and the consequences of radical decisions. TimeOut brings the famous classic to the stage in November 2026 and lets Schiller's world encounter a contemporary story. At the center of Schiller's drama are the brothers Karl and Franz Moor. While Karl fights for freedom and justice and becomes the leader of a band of robbers, Franz pursues his path to power through intrigue and manipulation. Karl's idealistic rebellion increasingly finds itself in a tension between the desire for freedom, responsibility, and violence. In this production, Schiller's story is complemented by a second, modern narrative layer: two sisters live in a supported living environment and are accompanied by two caregivers. Here too, different ideas of freedom, security, self-determination, and responsibility clash. Over the course of the evening, both worlds begin to mirror and intertwine with each other more and more. Schiller's original text remains unchanged and encounters a story from our present. The performance combines acting, speech and singing choirs, contemporary dance, and live music, creating a layered theater experience from Schiller's drama. An evening of theater about the longing for freedom, the temptation of power, and the question of how much responsibility freedom needs.
