100 years of Harmonikaerzeugung Strasser: history, tradition, innovation, and sound culture from Seiersberg Seiersberg near Graz - For a century, the Harmonikaerzeugung Strasser has stood for craftsmanship, innovation, and distinctive sound. The Styrian traditional company celebrates its 100th anniversary and looks back on an extraordinary company history that has been successfully continued into the third generation to this day. The company's roots go back to 1926. Founder Anton Strasser, who took a new career path after a war injury, learned the craft of harmonica making and established his own workshop in Graz. Despite difficult times during World War II, the business continued to develop steadily. After the unexpected death of the founder in 1956, his wife initially took over the management, followed by his son. Ernst Strasser senior led the company with craftsmanship, business acumen, and a spirit of innovation into a new growth phase. In the 1970s, Ernst Strasser junior completed his training in the family business and provided decisive impulses in design and technology. With great commitment and courage, he significantly changed the appearance of the Styrian harmonica. Unusual colors, materials, and shapes entered instrument manufacturing and made the harmonica fashionable—also in pop and schlager circles. Technical milestones such as the renewed bass mechanism and the patented SKL mechanism (Strasser Cone Bearing) continue to shape the instruments today. Since 2000, harmonicas are produced at the modern manufacturing site in Seiersberg. On approximately 1,200 square meters, the instruments are made entirely in-house—from the casing to the mechanics, from painting to tuning. About 20 employees combine state-of-the-art technology with traditional craftsmanship and decades of expertise. Generations of musicians have played their first melodies on Strasser harmonicas and continue to perform on stages, in ensembles, and at events both domestically and abroad with instruments from Seiersberg. Strasser harmonicas are known for their exceptional sound diversity—from folk music to classical, from Stub’nmusi to schlager—and carry the name as a quality brand worldwide. For the 100th anniversary, Harmonikaerzeugung Strasser honors its eventful history and also looks confidently to the future. The highlight of the celebrations is the grand Strasser Gala on November 7, 2026, at the Schwarzl-Halle in Premstätten. Accompanying this, two specially designed anniversary harmonicas with exclusive special features will be released, musically accompanying the anniversary year. Company boss Ernst Strasser junior and his team remain true to their claim: innovation, precision, and passion for an instrument that connects people—yesterday, today, and in the future.
