What's it about?

Works from the Viennese Classical, Romantic, and contemporary periods place the piano at the center of a chamber music dialogue with much tension, internal struggle, and tonal density. Joseph Haydn - Piano Trio in A-flat major, Hob XV/14 The 'inexhaustible spirit' significantly contributed to this genre with more than 40 piano trios. The A-flat major trio from 1790 was successfully marketed by the music publisher Artaria. It goes far beyond its predecessors in its originality, as shown by the melodically rich first movement with 'bold harmonic progressions.' Lera Auerbach - 24 Preludes for Viola and Piano The preludes by the Russian pianist and composer showcase her stylistic and emotional range, with influences from Shostakovich, Schnittke, and Piazzolla. She describes her polystilism as an attempt to explore our 'time full of contradictions with its madness, loneliness, brutality, and painful longing for lost innocence.' Johannes Brahms - Piano Quartet in C minor, op.60 The quartet from 1875 is based on a work Brahms wrote in 1855, in deep despair and love for Clara Schumann. The opening movement with sigh motifs and the dark scherzo retain much of the original version. The Andante, however, is intimate and relaxed, and the finale ends as a choral with a tragically resigned tone. Violin: Klara Flieder Viola: Thomas Selditz Cello: Reinhard Latzko Piano: Christian Schmidt
