What's it about?

The scholar Dr. Heinrich Faust is dissatisfied despite his knowledge and seeks a deeper meaning of life. In his despair, he makes a pact with Mephistopheles, who promises him a life full of joy and fulfillment if Faust surrenders his soul. In this quest, he falls in love with the young, innocent Margarete (Gretchen), but love leads to misfortune: she becomes pregnant, her family suffers, and she is eventually imprisoned for the death of her child. In the end, she turns to God in repentance and is saved, while Faust continues his journey with Mephistopheles.
