The "Illmitz-Hölle" sub-area offers variety and diversity in every season. Here, between dry grasslands and sandy habitats, you can find wading birds as well as duck or heron species and salt-tolerant plants! North of Illmitz lies the "Illmitz-Hölle" sub-area. Here you will find not only a number of salt lakes, but also meadows in front of Lake Neusiedl and extensive sandy areas that are extremely rare in Central Europe. The diverse habitats are home to a large number of animal and plant species, whose composition changes with the seasons. You will encounter wading birds as well as duck or heron species; salt-tolerant plants alternate with species of dry grasslands and sandy habitats.
